Papar Islamic School, Sabah, Malaysia
Construction works for a new State Islamic school south of Sg. Papar, Sabah
contravened State Land Ordinance Foreshore reserve limits and the Department
of Irrigation and Drainage guidelines with permanent structures only being
setback 10m from the high water line. DHI has completed a long-term
montoring, modelling and evaluation study to ascertain if erosion observed
during 1998 would re-emerge, given the deposition of 0.5 million m
3 of sand at the site by river discharge in connection with
typhoon Hilda in January 1999. DHI has also established the preferred form of
coastal protection, including hydraulic design parameters and the
environmental impacts upon the adjacent properties.
