The major dredging and reclamation project at Turtle Island, on the south
east of Bali, projuced numerous coastal engineering and environmental
challenges. DHI has undertaken all responsibilities for the hydraulic and
environmental design of the Turtle Island project in addition to all
aspects of the environmental management of the marine environment
associated with the borrow dredging and reclamation activities.
DHI's involvement with the project from 1996 through 1998 included
studies of:
-
Morphological Impact Assessment
-
Met-Ocean design conditions
-
Physical model testing of wave transformation over nearshore reef
-
Design optimisation of coastal protection structures
-
Environmental impact assessment, including analysis of impacts on
flushing within Benoa Bay, water quality within the bay and the adjacent
existing recreational beaches and navigation conditions in the
harbour approach channel
-
Comprehensive feedback monitoring and management of dredging and
reclamation operations including spill forecast/hindcast and biological
habitat monitoring
